Plot
The film opens with some footage showing the terrible destruction the Second World War is causing to Europe’s cultural heritage, with the famous monastery of Monte Cassino being destroyed by Allied bombing. The war is actually going well for the Allies, and the Germans are being pushed back to their own country.
However, the Germans are trying to steal as many artistic treasures as they can as they retreat. And while the Allies are advancing at an ever-greater speed, they are also unintentionally destroying some of the most culturally-important buildings in Europe. Hitler plans to put the stolen treasures in an enormous museum he intends to build in his home town of Linz in Austria. Europe’s artistic heritage is at serious risk from the Nazi thieves.

Sinopsis
Monuments Men cuenta la historia de un grupo de célebres historiadores británicos y estadounidenses que a finales de la segunda Guerra Mundial, fueron enviados por el entonces presidente de los Estados Unidos, Franklin D. Roosevelt, a un importante y peligroso encargo: rescatar las obras de arte que fueron desvalijadas por los nazis durante la guerra y retornarlas a sus respectivos dueños legales.
Para los protagonistas era como una tarea inviable, porque las obras de arte estaban encerradas en Alemania bajo las órdenes del ejército del país. Sin embargo estos hombres hicieron todo lo que estuvo en sus manos, incluso, arriesgaron sus vidas para recuperar y proteger algunas de las mejores obras de toda la historia.
