Plot
Eight months before the film opens, seven British pensioners travelled to what they thought was going to be a glamorous resort in Jaipur, India, where they planned to spend their retirement years in the “Best Exotic Marigold Hotel”. Things, however, were not as they expected…
Now, eight months later, we return to see how they are progressing, Muriel, once a bitter xenophobe, is now helping the young hotel owner, Sonny, to manage the business.
They are in America looking for investors for Sonny’s new plan –there is now only one vacancy in his hotel, and he wants to open a new one for other pensioners. A possible investor says he will send an undercover inspector to have a look at Sonny’s hotel. Shortly after the two return to India, two new people, Guy and Lavinia, arrive at the hotel. Sonny is convinced that Guy is the inspector..
